Dark Chocolate is a SuperFood. Loaded with powerful antioxidants and minerals, chocolate is heart-healthy, can lower blood-pressure and increase circulation, has been shown to reduce inflammation, and may improve cognitive function.
Commercial chocolate is made by roasting raw cacao beans and combining them with cocoa butter, sugar and often, milk. The high heat processing minimizes the powerful benefits in raw, unprocessed cacao.
Black Velvet Raw Chocolate Superfood
This quick and easy recipe uses raw cacao butter and powder to produce a velvety dark chocolate with no dairy, no processed sugar, and no ubiquitous additives like soy lecithin.
Ingredients
- 1 cups raw cacao butter
- 1 cup raw cacao powder
- ¼ cup raw honey
-
Optional: 1 teaspoon of real vanilla, hazelnut or orange extract. Chopped almonds, cocoa nibs, sea salt or coconut flakes.
Instructions
Melt the cocoa butter in a double boiler, or a glass bowl o top of a small pan with water over medium heat. Remove from the heat and add in the cacao powder and honey. If you choose to use a flavor extract, add it in as well.
Stir the ingredients together, making sure they are well incorporated, and smooth. This is the time to add in the add-ons.
Pour the chocolate into molds or onto a baking sheet or pyrex lined with parchment paper.
Let it harden at room temperature or in the fridge. Release from molds. It can be kept at room temperature in an air-tight container, or refrigerated.
